The Jewish Children’s Museum dinner, highlighting the Museum’s role in spreading understanding and appreciation of Yiddishkeit to NYC’s children, honored NYC Mayor Eric Adams, DOE Chancellor David C. Banks, and guest of honor Amar’e Stoudemire.
Amidst the recent surge in antisemitism across New York City, the Jewish Children’s Museum hosted an evening of unity and solidarity to mark its 19 years of impactful work. The event highlighted the museum’s vital role in educating NYC’s students about Judaism, countering the tide of hatred.
Mrs. Devorah Halberstam, the Museum’s director of external affairs, emphasized the importance of teaching children about Yidishkeit. “The only way to combat the raging antisemitism we see across New York City is through educating our children and the Jewish Children’s Museum has been at the forefront of this for two decades,” said Mrs. Halberstam. “We’re going to redouble our efforts to familiarize New York City’s youth with Jewish life, history and culture, promoting a spirit of acceptance and understanding.”
Chancellor David C. Banks spoke about the partnership between the DOE and the museum in combating antisemitism in public schools. He brought a middle school student from P.S. 399 to the podium to share his experience touring the JCM.
The event will feature various speakers and honorees, including Mayor Eric Adams, NYC Speaker Adrienne Adams, and guest of honor Amar’e Stoudemire. Adrienne Adams and the JCM’s Executive Director Yerachmiel Benyaminson gave an award to Former NBA player Amar’e Stoudemier.
Notably, the Museum presented the Ari Halberstam Memorial Award to Rabbi Yossi Spalter, a survivor of the Brooklyn Bridge shooting, in memory of Ari Halberstam a”h.
