Members of the Lubavitcher Chevra Kadisha of Montreal gathered at the Tzeirei Hadas Shul for davening and selichos, before heading to the Chabad cemetery in Laval, Quebec, following the ancient minhag to designate one day a year to seek forgiveness from the dead.
There is an ancient minhag that members of the Chevra Kadisha, who are engaged in the sacred work of chessed shel emes throughout the year, designate one day a year to gather for davening, recite slichos, and observe a fast. On this day, they seek forgiveness on behalf of all those who have passed during the year, in case there were any unintentional lapses in dignity or respect.
The members of the Montreal Chevra Kadisha gathered on Monday, 15 Kislev – as per the custom of the Lubavitch Chevra Kadishas worldwide – at the Tzeirei Hadas shul for shachris and slichos, following a trip to the Chabad Lubavitch cemetery located in Laval Quebec.
Later in the day, the members gathered for mincha and Krias hatorah followed by maariv. This was followed by the customary Seudah where Rabbi Shneur Zalman Rabin shared words of inspiration. Special thanks to the head of the Chevrah Kadisha Rabbi Shneur Zalman Rabin, and Rabbi Yisroel Isser Rosenblum.
