Harav Leibel Schapiro, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedola of Greater Miami and rov of Congregation Beis Menachem, paid a visit to leading Roshei Yeshivos and Rebbes in Eretz Yisroel.

Rabbi Schapiro is visiting Eretz Yisroel for the annual ‘Tzama’ events, where a record number of participants are expected to turn up for a few days of farbrengens, shiurim, nigunim performances, and a huge Chassidus book sale.

On Tuesday, Rabbi Schapiro visited the homes Harav Dov Lando, Rosh Yeshiva of the Slabodka, Harav Berel Povarsky, Rosh Yeshiva of the Ponevezh, the Modzitzer Rebbe, and Harav Moshe Sternbuch, raavad of the Eida Hachareidis.

Later that evening, Rabbi Schapiro was invited to attend the sheva brochos for the youngest son of the Boyaner Rebbe, held in his Beis Medrash in Yerushalayim.

The first visit took place at the home of Harav Dov Lando where they discussed the reemergence of techeiles in the last century. Rabbi Schapiro shared the view of Rebbe Rashab based on the Arizal, that there is no techeiles nowadays. They also had a friendly discussion on the meaning of the names ‘Schapiro’ and ‘Lando’ and the great rabbonim who carried them.

At the home of Harav Berel Povarsky, the Ponevezh Rosh Yeshiva shared his recollections of the two yechidus he had with the Rebbe, one of them lasting over two hours. He also related his discussions in Torah during one of them on the topic of free will by non-Jews.

He also recounted memories from when his father, Harav Dovid Povarsky, served as the rosh yeshiva of the Chabad Yeshiva in Tel Aviv, and of his father’s prize student, Reb Yoel Kahn a”h.

“My father really loved the Chabad Chasidim,” he repeated several times. “He would tell us about Chassidim such as Reb Leizer Karasik, Reb Moshe Gourari, Reb Shmaryahu Gourari, Reb Pinye Althaus, Reb Shaul Bruk and others.”

The next visit took place at the home of Harav Moshe Sternbuch, raavad of the Eida Hachareidis. Harav Sternbuch shared some of his memories of Rabbi Benzion Shemtov, who he knew from his years in London. The pair then held a lengthy Torah discussion about Yidden living in non-Jewish lands during the time of galus.
