On the second night of Chanukah, aboard the ARA Río Santiago patrol boat in Argentina, Defense Minister Luis Petri joined Shliach Rabbi Chaim Oirechman to light a Menorah and later shared the event on social media, praising the Jewish community for upholding the values of liberty and democracy in Argentina.
Argentinian Defense Minister Luis Petri shared a post on his social media account about a special menorah lighting he participated in last week with Rabbi Chaim Oirechman, Shliach in Buenos Aires. The minister wrote:
“Together with Rabbi Chaim Oirechman of the Chabad Puerto Madero community and his wife, Miriam, we sailed aboard the patrol boat ARA Río Santiago and lit the guiding candle, which serves as the initial flame for the rest of the candles that will be lit during Chanukah.
At the start of this celebration, I want to express my gratitude to Rabbi Chaim and the entire Jewish community of Argentina for their invaluable contribution to the prosperity of our nation and the defense of its interests. They consistently uphold the values of liberty and democracy.”
Minister Petri also shared his hope that the lights of Chanukah would bring peace and illuminate the path for the Jewish people while calling for the safe return of those held captive by Hamas terrorism. He concluded with a heartfelt plea: “We raise our voices for their release: ‘Bring them back home!'”
The post garnered widespread positive reactions, including many likes and supportive comments from other ministers and members of the Argentine government. It also brought significant attention to the miracle of Chanukah, spreading its message throughout the country.
