Washington, D.C. — On Tuesday evening, Congressional leaders gathered in the Rayburn Room of the U.S. Capitol to celebrate Pre-Chanukah in a bipartisan event filled with symbolism and unity. The ceremony featured a menorah crafted from the remnants of a rocket launched into Israel by Hamas, with a plaque bearing the prophetic words from Isaiah: “And they shall beat their swords into plowshares.”
The event was led by Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Executive Vice President of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad), who recited the blessings as the menorah was lit. Among the attendees were House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
The menorah’s powerful symbolism highlighted themes of resilience, hope, and the aspiration for peace, resonating with the story of Chanukah and the spirit of bipartisan collaboration.
