Melbourne Unites to Study the Rebbe’s Maamorim

The Melbourne community gathered to learn all of the Rebbe’s Maamorim on sefiras haomer and Lag Baomer in a single night.

On Pesach Sheini, Melbourne’s Anash Kehilla came together to accomplish something special, by divvying, up and learning all of the Rebbe’s Maamorim on Sefiras Haomer and Lag Baomer in one night.

The idea was conceived by Mr. Josh Goldhirsch, after having run a successful learning evening in honor of Yud Aleph Nissan, which saw over 80 people come together to learn a Maamar of the Rebbe on Pesach. Mr Goldhirsch, wondered whether as a community, Melbourne could come together and learn all the Maamorim that the Rebbe said at a particular time of year or for a specific Yomtov.

Being that Lag Baomer is connected to Pnimius Hatorah, it was decided to run this program as a preparation for Lag Baomer.

With 38 Maamarim on Sefiras Haomer and Lag Baomer to learn, the strong crowd of over 130 Yungeleit and Bochurim created an electric atmosphere of Torah study. Chavrusas were made and the Maamorim were assigned. The Achdus was tangible as Jews of all ages and walks of life joined together in learning the Rebbe’s Torah. What was particularly pleasing was the genuine excitement people felt to be able to learn a Maamar of the Rebbe as part of a community initiative.

Organised by Kollel Menachem Lubavitch, the evening also included refreshments and a raffle on two sets of Sefer Maamarim Meluket courtesy of Rabbi Ari Schachter. Following the learning, the participants joined together for a lively Pesach Sheini Farbrengen.

Building on this success and excitement in learning the Rebbe’s Chassidus, the community is looking forward to the next project – to learn all of the Rebbe’s Shavous Maamarim in the same styled program. We encourage other communities to try this new idea!
