Every year after Sukkos, Rabbi Yeshayahu Herzl, Rabbi of Nof HaGalil, takes the Esrog he used over yomtov and hides it away until the next year when he replaces is with a new mehudar one.
This year, when he opened the Esrog box, he was amazed to discover that his esrog remained completely intact, in its original size and smell.
“It’s really a miracle,” Rabbi Hertz said. “It’s never happened like this that an esrog should remain in its full beauty after a year. Everyone knows that the etrog shrinks over time. This year’s etrog simply remained completely intact and I have no explanation for that.”
Rabbi Herzl consulted with a number of rabbonim who advised him to offer the etrog for public use so that others can make a blessing on the miraculous esrog.
The mayor of Nof HaGilil Ronen Plot said that the esrog that lasted a whole year against all the laws of nature brings optimism to the city for the new year which will certainly be better than the previous one.
I’ve had such an esrog before, but when cut open was completely rotten on the inside. I think a Rov was asked and he said it’s Passul.
When you cut it open, it’s passul.
Seems sketchy. Could be it is gmo or something. Not sure if making a brachah on it is a good idea
This is a sign of Tchiyas Hameisim very soon
Is this a Yanover Esrog?
With the amount of chemicals that gets sprayed on these not surprising that the outside becomes completely sealed and gets preserved
If stored in the plastic bouble wrap bag they stay fresh for a long time.
The Alter Rebbe clearly writes that such an Esrog is Passul.
Its clear from the Rama in shulchan aruch
A friend on fine had the same thing with his esrog. Rabbi bell from Montreal told him the Alter Rebbe says it’s “yoveish”, dry. Obviously it didn’t look dry. The rov said the only to really find out was to cut it open 🙂
