Today, the final descendant of his family from the Holocaust, Mr. George Trepper, one of the elder Jews of Namibia and Hungarian ambassador to Namibia, was laid to rest with a proper kevura.

George was a precious Jew who, unfortunately, did not grow up with his family. It was only in recent years, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Chabad Rabbi Yosef Rahimi, who visited him almost every week, that George reconnected with his Yiddishkeit and began putting on tefillin, something he had not done throughout his life.

Utilizing his position as the honorary Hungarian consul to Namibia, George assisted in obtaining permits for bringing the four species into the country for Sukkos.

In his later years, he became more religiously observant, attending prayers and Jewish events, and made an effort to put on tefillin every week.

Baruch Hashem, George was brought to kever Yisrael today through the efforts of the local Jewish community members, Reb Tzvi and Nachum Gorlik, along with Rabbi Rahimi. He merited to be buried as a Jew and a minyan was gathered to recite Kaddish for him.

“It’s never too late to ignite a Jewish spark,” Rabbi Rahimi concluded.
