Even with regular Lag B’Omer celebrations canceled due to coronavirus, shluchim and others found unique ways to celebrate. Some Chabad Houses held downsized celebrations, with social distancing, while others held theirs over Zoom.
In Eretz Yisroel, the creativity was brought to the next level. Videos and pictures on social media show bonfires on trucks, cars with torches and candles arranged in the shape of a bonfire.
One such celebration, in the town of Lubavitch, was the first in its history. While the Rabbeim used to go to the fields and celebrate Lag B’Omer, the custom of bonfires was never a Lubavitch minhag per se. As such, the town never has a Lag B’Omer bonfire before. This year however, a lighting was held in the chotzer of the Rabbeim, making it the first time Lag B’Omer was marked in that way in the town.
