A worker employed on the Kingston Avenue sewer replacement project was arrested after stealing a generator worth about $20,000. The theft occurred Friday night around 9:00 p.m., when the individual removed the equipment from the site.

Crown Heights residents noticed the suspicious activity, and acting swiftly in close cooperation with the NYPD, they helped track down the suspect by Monday and ensured the stolen generator was recovered. Police officers then arrived, took the man into custody, and transferred him for questioning. The generator was safely returned to its owner.

The arrest took place during the closure of Kingston Avenue between President Street and Eastern Parkway, where crews are carrying out sewer replacement and full roadway excavation as part of a major capital project.

  1. These workers can’t be trusted. They are in the heart of our neighborhood. They might steal our cars, bikes and scooters. They might not be safe for our family. Community Askanim, such as Yaakov Behrman, should voice these concerns to the local precinct and ensure there’s watching eyes over this crew the entire time they spend here.
