When the text came in, HaMesivta’s mashpia couldn’t believe it.
“100 weeks.”
Moishy* had just kept Shabbos for the 100th week in a row.
It hadn’t always been this way. Just two and a half years earlier, during a wine-making workshop with the bochurim, Moishy quietly slipped out. Later, he explained why:
“If I touch the wine… it becomes yayin nesech.”
Because he wasn’t keeping Shabbos.
He was in Yeshiva, surrounded by davening, learning, singing — but inside, he was lost. Conflicted. Torn between what he grew up with and what he thought he wanted.
It was hard to reach him. He didn’t open up easily. But the mashpia didn’t let go.
He didn’t push, didn’t preach — just stayed present. He made sure Moishy felt seen. Valued. Believed in. Again and again.
And slowly, something began to shift.
One day, Moishy came over quietly.
“Rebbi… I kept Shabbos this week.”
That was all he said.
The next week, another quiet message: “2 weeks.”
Then, “3.”
And on and on.
He was still struggling. But now he wasn’t struggling alone.
He knew someone cared. Someone was proud of him even for trying. And that gave him the strength to keep going.
By the time he reached 100 weeks, Shabbos wasn’t a battle anymore — it was a part of him.
He had changed. Grown. Returned.
Today, Moishy is married. A father. A proud Chossid raising a Shomer Shabbos home — the kind of home he once wasn’t sure he’d ever want.
