Governor Hochul Expected to Visit 770 Today

New York Governor Kathy Hochul is expected to visit 770 Eastern Parkway today to show solidarity with the Crown Heights Jewish community following the ramming attack that occurred on Yud Shevat.
The governor is expected to arrive at Chabad World Headquarters later today, sources indicate. The visit comes weeks after the incident on Yud Shevat, when Dan Sohail, 36, of Carteret, New Jersey, repeatedly rammed his car into the rear entrance of 770 during one of the most significant days on the Chabad calendar – the yartzeit of the Frierdiker Rebbe and the day marking the beginning of the nesius of the Rebbe.
Thousands of people had gathered at 770 that day, including many bochurim who travel from around the world for the special occasion. Miraculously, not one person was injured.
Following the attack, Governor Hochul issued a statement: “For the second day in a row, Jewish New Yorkers were the targets of antisemitic violence. Thankfully, there appear to be no injuries, but an attack against the Jewish community is an attack against all New Yorkers.”
Her visit follows similar solidarity visits by other high-ranking officials, including NYC Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, and New York Attorney General Letitia James, all of whom came to the scene shortly after the attack.
Additional details have emerged about the incident, including that Sohail had been seen around 770 earlier that day and had previously visited various Chabad houses in New Jersey. Sohail has been charged with attempted assault, criminal mischief, and aggravated harassment – all as hate crimes.
The timing of the governor’s visit also coincides with her reelection campaign efforts. However, many in the Crown Heights community view the visit with skepticism given her controversial endorsement of Mayor Mamdani during his mayoral campaign – a move that was described by Jewish community leaders at the time as “a massive betrayal and slap in the face.”
Prior to that endorsement, Hochul had enjoyed strong support from Chabad and Orthodox neighborhoods such as Crown Heights, Borough Park, and the Five Towns, where rabbonim and askanim publicly urged voters to back her based on her promises to combat antisemitism. The governor had previously intervened on behalf of the community, including halting demolition plans for the historic Kingsbrook shul.
someone better let her know that it costs $9 to enter 770. this was done to help ease congestion in the crowded shul. if she complains tell her it was actually going to be $15, so she’s actually saving $6
