While leaving back to Eretz Yisroel escorted by hundreds of Chassidim, the Gerrer Rosh Yeshiva Harav Shaul Alter was greeted by two Lubavitcher bochurim who presented him with historic pictures of his father, the previous Gerrer Rebbe, meeting the Rebbe.
Harav Shaul Alter is the son of the previous Rebbe of Gur the Pnei Menachem, and is today a leader to hundreds of Gerrer families worldwide. He was returning to Eretz Yisroel from a week-long trip to the United States to meet with supporters and raise funds for the newly established mosdos Pnei Menachem.
When passing by the Chabad counter, Hatomim Shmuel Butler, a young and energetic Chabad activist, greeted the Rosh Yeshiva and presented him with pictures of his father, the Pnei Menachem of Gur’s visit to the Rebbe in 5744. The Pnei Menachem visited the Rebbe 10 times, one of them with his son Harav Shaul, but most of the visits were not documented, and very few photos were taken of the visits that were photographed. It was only fairly recently that new photos were discovered, and Harav Alter was touched to see them.
The Rosh Yeshiva, who was visibly moved as he looked through the photos, thanked the bochurim profusely for the touching gift.
Rabbi Alter was pleasantly surprised when he discovered that one of the bochurim manning the tefillin stand Mendel Rosenbluh, is a great-grandson of Rabbi Gedalia Hertz, who served as Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Chidushei Harim.
