On 24 Teves, the Yom Hilula of the Alter Rebbe, head shliach and Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar paid a special visit to the home of the Gerrer Rebbe.
During the meeting, the Gerrer Rebbe showed keen interest in the current state of Jewish life in Russia and was deeply impressed by the continued growth of Jewish institutions there – including shuls, Chabad Houses, schools, and mikvaos – despite the many challenges. He expressed admiration for the dedication and impact of the Rebbe’s shluchim and their families.
Rabbi Lazar presented the Rebbe with the newly released Tanya HaSholeim, and the Rebbe was impressed by the extraordinary response to the work, which reflects the excitement and thirst among Jews worldwide for the teachings of Chassidus. To date, nearly 80,000 copies of the Tanya HaSholeim have been sold globally.
The meeting highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Ger dynasty and Chabad. The Gerrer Rebbe’s father, the Lev Simcha, maintained a warm connection with Chabad and visited the Rebbe on several occasions for yechidus.
In the 1980s, the Rebbe’s sichos were regularly published in Hamodia, the primary newspaper of the chareidi community, thanks to Rabbi Tuvia Peles, who was closely connected with Ger.
Over the years, the current Gerrer Rebbe has stood alongside his father and later his uncle, the Pnei Menachem of Ger, in their support for the Rebbe, Lubavitch, and hafatzas hamaayonos.
