Starting a historic new chapter for the Jewish community in Gateshead, England, the first night of Chanukah saw its first-ever Menorah parade, accompanied by lively Chanukah music and warmly welcomed by community members.
Gateshead marked a historic milestone this Chanukah with its first-ever official Car Menorah Parade, a spectacular display of Jewish pride and unity that brought joy to the streets of the town. Around 20 cars participated in the event, with many adorned with fixed menorahs, which were arranged by Ari Black from London. Others joined the parade showcasing creative DIY menorah designs, balloons, and other festive decorations.
The parade was accompanied by lively Chanukah music, as participants handed out chocolate coins to delighted children lining the streets. To add to the festive spirit, doughnuts were distributed to all the families, ensuring that everyone could share in the sweetness of the occasion. Families, friends, and onlookers gathered to cheer and clap, creating a warm and joyous atmosphere that lit up the night.
This event, organized by local families, was a first for Gateshead and has been met with tremendous feedback. Many community members described it as a truly special and unifying experience that brought the miracle and message of Chanukah to life.
