For two weeks, the students at Chabad-Lubavitch Hebrew Academy spent their time sawing, hammering and painting. Their goal: A 25-foot high dreidel.
The entire school took part in the building and designing of the dreidel. Even the youngest students were involved in the project.
The idea for the dreidel came from Ira Bernstein, a local contractor and supporter of the school who approached Rabbi Shloime Denburg, the school’s director of development, to see if he would be interested in the idea. Rabbi Denberg loved it.
The final product actually spins, and has the letters of nun, gimmel, hey and shin on its sides.
When finally completer the massive dreidel was unveiled at a ceremony with the team of creators, sponsors, and educators, as well as elected officials.
