Florida Boys Excel in Farher with Miami Rosh Yeshiva

At the end of the school year, boys from Coral Springs, Florida, who mastered some or all of a Masechta Gemara were farherred by Rabbi Leibel Schapiro, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah of Miami, who was impressed by their level of learning.

Pushing the educational envelope to bring out the best in our students is what we do at Lubavitch Hebrew Academy in Margate, FL. With that in mind, we arranged an end-of-year Farher with Rabbi Leibel Schapiro, Marah D’asra of Chabad of Florida, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah of Miami, and Rav of Bais Menachem Miami Beach.

This time-honored tradition of regional Rabbis testing local Yeshiva students forges a link between one generation of Jewish learning and the next and practically underscores the value we place on student growth and achievement.

A select group of 6th graders were examined on Masechta Baba Kama, Perek Hameiniach, while 7th & 8th graders had to answer questions on the entire Masechta Makkos. Both of these are serious milestones at these young ages.

Not only was the experience itself an inspiration and a z’chus, so too was the lead-up to the event. To quote just three of the students:

“[Knowing that there was an upcoming Farher] encouraged me to finish the Masechta and learn it really well…”

“The nachas it brought my parents and teachers made the months of preparation well worth it.”

“It was really helpful…for Mesivta and the rest of my life.”

Suffice it to say, Rabbi Schapiro had tremendous nachas as well and was more than pleasantly surprised at the level of our students’ learning.

The boys were accompanied by Principal Rabbi Shneur Wilhelm, and dean Rabbi Yaakov Sheinberger, who taught and encouraged the students.
