Family-to-Family Mivtzoim Connected Yidden Over Purim

As part of the “Lamternshtik” program organized by Chabad of Sheepshead Bay, Anash families from Crown Heights took on a staggering fifty routes, handing out over 2,000 Mishloach Manos and Matonos Laevyonim and setting up shop at 10 stands in the city’s bustling streets.

Parked at the corner of President and Kingston, a truck played upbeat and spirited niggunim over Purim. Walking up to the truck, bochurim and families reached out for specifically pre-packed Mishloach Manos and Matonos Laevyonim, ready with a list of about 20 Jewish homes they could reach in simply two hours.

As part of the “Lamternshtik” program organized by Chabad of Sheepshead Bay, following the Rebbe’s directives in bringing the joy and warmth of Purim to others and helping them fulfill the day’s mitzvahs, 50 Lubavitcher families from Crown Heights each went on routes, handing out over 2,000 Mishloach Manos and Matonos Laevyonim and setting up shop at 10 stands in the city’s bustling streets with dozens of Megilah readings.

As one of the organizers told Anash.org, “You don’t need to have a Megillah or know how to read one to participate in Mivtzoim on Purim.” They added, “In fact, the Rebbe explained that the easiest things in life are often the most vital — like breathing and eating. These require minimal effort but are essential to life. The same applies to mitzvos: those that are simple and take less effort are often the most vital. That’s why the Rebbe emphasized that the main mitzvos of Purim are Mishloach Manos and Matonos L’Evyonim, rather than reading the Megillah.”

Alongside the families, a bus of young women from Beis Rivkah Seminary headed out to the area to do mivtzoim as well.

“When we meet other Jews in the Purim spirit,” the organizers said, “we have a unique opportunity to connect with them about Yiddishkeit like never before!”
