After four years of planning and community collaboration, the Crown Heights Mesivta Vocational Track is now a reality. The program provides hands-on training in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, and low-voltage electrical work, giving bochurim in need tangible skills and real-world experience.

The track grew out of a JCCGCI virtual listening tour five years ago, which brought together educators, mental health professionals, and community leaders. A clear consensus emerged: a structured vocational track within Mesivta high schools was essential.

The program was made possible by a generous anonymous funder who awarded JCCGCI a two-year, $225,000 grant to pilot and administer the initiative across three Crown Heights Mesivtas.

Currently, the program serves roughly 100 boys from Mesivta Oholei Torah and Mesivta Chovevei Torah, with demand continuing to grow. Bochurim say the program gives them pride and accomplishment even on challenging academic days.

One shared that completing a carpentry project made him feel capable and valued; while another said that he had gained confidence by helping classmates with electrical work. Teachers report improved attendance, focus, and engagement across the board.

JCCGCI thanks United Lubavitcher Yeshivos, Mesivta Oholei Torah, Mesivta Chovevei Torah, and instructors Yisroel Bernstein and Levi Weinbaum for making this program possible.

The track is part of JCCGCI’s broader Crown Heights initiatives, including career placement, after-school programs, youth enrichment, and workforce development.
