Congressional Leaders Hold Pre-Chanukah Ceremony in U.S. Capitol
Speaker Mike Johnson, Senator Chuck Schumer, and Representative Hakeem Jeffries joined Shliach Rabbi Levi Shemtov for a pre-Chanukah Menorah lighting and reception in the Rayburn Room of the U.S. Capitol.
Senior congressional leadership and over two dozen members of Congress gathered in the Rayburn Room of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday evening for a bipartisan Menorah lighting and reception held in advance of Chanukah.
The event, now in its third year, was hosted by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) and led by Shliach Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Executive Vice President of American Friends of Lubavitch.
Taking place several days before the start of Chanukah next week, the ceremony served as a rare moment of unity on Capitol Hill. Top leadership from both sides of the aisle attended, including Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY).
They were joined by numerous Jewish lawmakers from both parties, including Reps. Craig Goldman, Randy Fine, and Dan Goldman, who came together for the early celebration.
