Children Hold Their Own Siyum Horambam in Kingston, PA

Two hundred parents and children assembled at the Bais Moshe Shul in Kingston, PA on Motzei Shabbos to celebrate the siyum Sefer Hamitzvos. At a fleishig melava malka and seudas mitzvah, boys were honored with completing and beginning the Sefer Hamitzvos.

Two hundred parents and children assembled at the Bais Moshe Shul in Kingston, PA this past Motzei Shabbos to celebrate the siyum sefer hamitzvos.

The program began with children learning with their parents, emphasizing the importance of learning Torah with achdus. Afterwards, they washed for a fleishig melava malka, enjoying a seudas mitzvah together in celebration of this special occasion.

The event was emceed by Rabbi Sholom Ber Mendelson, who spoke passionately about the significance of children studying sefer hamitzvos. He highlighted how important it is to have knowledge of all the Mitzvos that Hashem gave us, and the zechus we have to connect to the Rebbe by fulfilling his directive that men, women, and children unite in learning Rambam daily.

The final shiur of sefer hamitzvos was read by two young boys, Yair Barak and Moshe Noach Hershkop. The attendees then joined together in a joyous singing of “Umolo Haaretz,” celebrating the Siyum of learning all 613 Mitzvos of the Torah.

Following the siyum, the crowd immediately began diving into the first shiur of sefer hamitzvos, with Mendel Hackner leading the way. Rabbi Yitzchok Roness, one of the organizers of the event, expressed his excitement for the future of the learning cycle and how he believes that making a large siyum will encourage more people to join in the learning.

The Rebbe once stated that sefer hamitzvos has an advantage over Mishnah Torah because it includes the sources of the halachos, something which the Rambam regretted not having done so in Sefer Hayad.
