Staff Sgt. Omer Tabib HYD, 21, was killed Wednesday morning when an anti-tank guided missile fired from the Gaza Strip hit the military jeep he was riding in.
When Rabbi Mordechai Hellinger, shliach in Chevron, heard the news, he was devastated. “He served in Chevron about a year and a half ago,” he told Anash.org. “He was very close with our bochrium shluchim and regularly put on tefillin with them.”
Omer Tabib served in the 931st Battalion of the Nahal Brigade and was from Moshav Eliakim in Megiddo Regional Council in northern Israel. He was just a month away from completing his military service.
Omer was taking part in security operations near the community of Netiv Ha’asara to protect it from infiltration by terrorists from the Gaza Strip, IDF Spokesperson Hidai Zilberman said.
He was traveling in a military jeep with three other soldiers on a hill exposed to the Strip Gaza, when the missile hit their vehicle, killing Tabib and wounding the other men.
