On the first day of Chanukah, the New York Police Department hosted a Chanukah event at the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
The event was organized by Rabbi Yossi Rapp of ChabadAir, with Rabbi Yossi Bryski serving as MC, and an address by Rabbi Simon Jacobson.
The lighting also corresponded to the first day of service of the new Commanding Officer of the 71st Precinct, Tito Romero.
CO Romero was honored to light the shamash and was presented with a gift of a dreidel which “represents the freedom we enjoy today to practice our Jewish faith openly and without fear,” organizers said.
