The central Lag BaOmer celebration, organized by NCFJE, will take place online this year, with special videos of the Rebbe, a hookup from Meron and many Jewish singers.
Rabbi Shimon Sabol of NCFJE and the Lag B’omer parades in Crown Heights told Anash.org that they’ve been getting dozens of calls from people who want to know what is being planned. “There’s a lot of interest from people around the country and around the world. They want to know what we will be doing, if we can share ideas with them and whether they can join the program.”
One of the central themes of Lag B’Omer is for children to go out to parks and fields to celebrate the great Yomtov. For over 75 years, NCFJE has arranged annual Lag B’Omer outings and parades. However, with the current restrictions, the Great Parade’s usual plans are not possible. Instead, NCFJE is planning for an online rally starting at 12 EST (on Lag B’omer, May 12) to be broadcast on Chabad.org/rally and on Anash.org. “A lot of creative minds have been working together for weeks to make sure there’s a great program even though it’s not outdoors,” Rabbi Sabol shared. “It’s going to be amazing.”
As Rabbi Shimon Hecht put it, “Over the last couple of months we have made our homes into Batei Kneisiyos and Batei Midrashos, surely we can also make them into a park to celebrate Lag B’Omer.”
Although we will be at home, we will be connected with the Rashbi in Meiron and the Kosel via hook-up. Rabbis YY Jacobson and S.M. Rubashkin will join to give messages of inspiration to the children.
On the program is a beautiful video of highlights of the parades with the Rebbe, being made in conjunction with JEM, and a truly new concept of a virtual Jewish Trivia Game Show, featuring all the biggest Jewish stars like MBD, Benny Friedman, 8th Day, Boruch Sholom, Eli Marcus, Uncle Moishy, Mitzvah Boulevard and many more! Schools will compete and the winning school will receive a prize for all their students!
The program will be broadcast live on Chabad.org/rally at 12pm on Lag B’Omer, Tuesday, May 12. Make sure to tune in with your family!
