When the Covid-19 pandemic took the world by surprise in March of last year, Rabbi Zalman Gerber, executive director of Camp Gan Israel of Greater Philadelphia, had only one thing in mind; camp must go on.
Now, Camp Gan Israel of Greater Philadelphia is not just your average camp. It is an unbelievable program that takes place at the beautiful 10-acre campus with everything a child (or staff member) can want.
Rabbi Zalman and Miriam Gerber were sent by the Rebbe over 30 years ago to Philadelphia, and at the specific direction of the Rebbe bought a beautiful 10-acre campsite. They’ve been helping hundreds of children every summer ever since.
So while the whole world waited with uncertainty and many camps announced that “this year they just won’t be open” the Gerbers spent months planning, recruiting, and preparing for a better summer than ever before!
“Hashem must have seen how much we wanted to do His work,” says Rabbi Gerber. “He protected us and Baruch HaShem we had absolutely no cases of Covid.”
Success breed success. After last year’s amazing summer, there is a huge influx of kids that would love to have the best summer of their lives. Now Camp Gan Israel has a new challenge to meet….. they need more staff.
Many positions are still available including lifeguards, head counselors and a few more counselor spots remain as well.
