From tefillin campaigns to singing “I’m a Jew and I’m Proud” on the Brooklyn Bridge, Camp L’man Achai boys used their exciting trip to transform New York City into a celebration of Yiddishkeit.
At Camp L’man Achai, the excitement never stops — campers were up at 5 a.m., boarding buses bound for a day of inspiration, connection, and Jewish pride in New York.
The trip began at the Ohel, where the boys had prepared panim the night before during learning classes. Greeted by Rabbi Yossi Paltiel who spoke to the campers, they then entered in small groups to daven — for many, it was their first time, and an unforgettable spiritual moment.
From there, the group traveled to Crown Heights, visiting HaSofer to watch a sofer write a Sefer Torah and mezuzos, exploring a judaica store and kosher supermarkets, and enjoying a delicious pizza lunch at Moshe Rubashkin’s. At 770, they visited the Rebbe’s room, WLCC, and joined a lively rally in the main shul, saying pesukim, hearing inspiring stories, and davening Mincha.
The excitement continued with ice cream at Sweet Expressions before heading to Manhattan. On the Staten Island Ferry, the boys waved to the Statue of Liberty and took in the skyline. On the streets, they put on tefillin with passersby — including several karkaftas — and proudly sang “I’m a Jew and I’m Proud” as they danced across the Brooklyn Bridge. For many, it was their first time walking publicly in yarmulkes and tzitzis with such open pride.
The older division stayed an extra day, visiting the Museum of Jewish Heritage to learn about the Holocaust, catching a Yankee Stadium game, and bringing Jewish joy to Times Square. When faced with anti-Semitic remarks, they responded with song and positivity — blasting “I’m a Jew and I’m Proud” in a moment that went viral.
The trip left campers inspired, confident, and proud of their Jewish identity — because at Camp L’man Achai, every day is packed with meaning, joy, and unforgettable memories.
