Chabad of Bakersfield, California, led by Shliach Rabbi Shmuly Schlanger, held a heartfelt shloshim memorial for his brother, Rabbi Eli Schlanger HYD, who was tragically murdered 30 days ago in the Sydney terror attack.
The attack, which left 15 dead, occurred during the Chanukah at the Beach celebration that Rabbi Schlanger had organized, shaking the entire Jewish world.
The memorial brought together a large turnout from the broader community, fellow shluchim from the area, and local leaders, including Mayor Karen Goh. Rabbi Avraham Meyer Zajac of Chabad of SOLA delivered poignant and heartfelt words, while Cantor Yudi Cohen uplifted the gathering with inspiring song and prayer.
Despite the pain and loss, Rabbi Schlanger and the community resolved to continue their work with renewed strength, refusing to be silenced, and committed to carrying on the mission with the courage, faith, and dedication exemplified by Rabbi Eli.
