Boro Park Marked Chassidishe Purim with Mivtzoim, Farbrengen
Dozens of Chassidim in Borough Park marked Purim by taking part in the Rebbe’s Purim mivtzoim, spending the day bringing the joy and mitzvos of the Yom Tov to fellow Jews, followed by a lively chassidishe farbrengen with mashpia at Yeshivas Chovevei Torah, Rabbi Shimon Dexter.
Dozens of Chassidim in Borough Park marked Purim by taking part in the Rebbe’s Purim mivtzoim, spending the day bringing the joy and mitzvos of the Yom Tov to fellow Jews, followed by a lively chassidishe farbrengen.
Shortly before Purim, a flashy and catchy video released by the “Yehi Ohr” initiative went viral across frum media, encouraging participants to take the initiative and connect with Jews who are not yet frum, sharing with them the joy and mitzvos of Purim.
The initiative follows a successful launch just before Chanukkah, when dozens participated by distributing hundreds of menorahs to friends, acquaintances, and fellow Jews who otherwise might not have had one.
This year, many Chassidim joined the effort, spending Purim meeting with friends, acquaintances, distant relatives, and even Jews they encountered on the street. Throughout the day they helped them fulfill the four mitzvos of the day, and in many cases also assisted men in putting on tefillin.
As the Purim seudahs around Borough Park came to a close, dozens gathered at Beis Menachem Lubavitch of Boro Park for a celebratory farbrengen with mashpia at Yeshivas Chovevei Torah, Rabbi Shimon Dexter.
Rabbi Dexter farbrenged for many hours as the Chassidim sang, danced, and immersed themselves in the light, warmth, and joy of Purim and Chassidus.
“You can only be a Chossid if you think Chassidus for at least ten minutes a day,” he said.
Speaking from the heart, he pleaded with the parents, “Your children need to know that the only thing I care about – from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep – is learning a maamer of Chassidus. That is the one thing their father truly cares about.”
“It was a very uplifting farbrengen,” said Ezriel Sporn, one of the participants. “Everyone was dancing and involved in a very serious way. You could feel the ad dlo yoda of Chassidus in the air.
