Boro Park Locals Launch Chanukah Mivtzoim Campaign
“Chaim Hersh? Zog mir, how many Yidden are working with us in the warehouse?” This question opened a flashy and catchy video that went viral this past week across the frum media, telling the story of a unique project.
“Chaim Hersh? Zog mir, how many Yidden are working with us in the warehouse?”
This question opened a flashy and catchy video that went viral this past week across the frum media.
The scene captured a Yid, dressed in traditional Chassidishe levush, compiling a list of Yidden he knows or has contact with as he ensures each one receives a menorah to light for Chanukah.
The video serves as the launch for a new project called “Yehi Ohr – Let There Be Light.” This initiative, organized by Boro Park locals, intends to encourage others to take the initiative and connect Jews who are not yet frum with the light and joy of Chanukah.
“You don’t need to be a Lubavitcher Shliach to reach another Yid and spread light,” one of the organizers, a Boro Park yungerman, told anash.org. “Every one of us can share the Yom Tov with someone.”
As the professional and clear video highlights, everyone knows a few Yidden who may not yet own a menorah. This could be the Russian Jew working in your warehouse, your wife’s dentist, the woman at the front desk, or a not frum cousin in Long Island.
“While my candles are burning this Chanukah, I can’t ignore the Yiddishe sparks that also yearn for Yehi Ohr,” the narrator says.
‘Yehi Ohr’ has arranged elegant displays with Mivtzoim-style menorahs and beautiful Chanukah brochures in all major supermarkets and shuls throughout Boro Park for locals to pick out as many as they need. These displays encourage everyone to “think about those candles that are not yet burning” and gift the Yidden they know a menorah of their own, “so their candles will also burn as long as they can.”
“These candles will indeed burn for only eight days,” the video concludes, “but their neshamos for the entire year. Together, we will reach every Jew and flood the world with the light of Chanukah!”
