Israeli embassies and consulates around the world closed their doors Wednesday, due to a strike by the Israeli Foreign Ministry. The strike comes as the result of a long standing feud between the Finance and Foreign Ministries over various funding issues.
The closure of embassies and consulates means that any Israeli traveling abroad will receive no help with a lost passport or other issues. Additionally, the consulates are refusing to give the proper documentation to bring bodies to Israel for burial.
This has resulted in numerous families waiting in a limbo, as their deceased loved ones are sitting in morgues, and they are unable to even start sitting shiva. There are at least 3 such confirmed cases in New York alone.
