This year, over 10,000 children from more than 300 communities around the world gathered to celebrate the miracle of Chanukah at the CKids Chanukah Block Party. Chanukah, a holiday centered on the power of light overcoming darkness, took on new meaning as children and families joined together to embrace their Jewish identity and celebrate with pride in the face of adversity.
From Dreidel Doordash, a playful twist on a classic tradition, to the Chanukah Food Truck Fest, where families enjoyed festive treats, the event was a perfect blend of learning, fun, and connection. These activities filled the air with joy, laughter, and the irresistible scent of sufganiyot, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
The highlight of the celebration was the creation of Chanukah LED Sculptures, where children transformed iconic Chanukah symbols—like menorahs, dreidels, flames, and jugs of oil—into glowing masterpieces using LED strips. As these radiant sculptures lit up homes and neighborhoods, the crafts became symbols of Jewish pride and resilience. For parents, it was a profoundly moving experience.
Another standout moment was the Glow & Go Post Office, an opportunity for children to reflect on their role in preserving Jewish traditions and values. Using an interactive resolutions page, kids pledged to celebrate Jewish customs, foster togetherness, and keep their traditions alive. They also wrote heartfelt notes to Holocaust survivors, IDF soldiers, and seniors in old age homes. One child’s message read, “You make people happy every day. No matter what, your voice is heard, and people care about you.” These simple yet powerful acts of kindness embodied the true spirit of Chanukah, as children became living examples of its timeless message—spreading more light to the darkest of places.
“Every year, at the Chanukah rallies, the Rebbe made it clear to every child that they are an integral part of the Chanukah story of today, sharing with them their tremendous strength and impact,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, Executive Director of Merkos 302 and Chairman of CKids International. “Now more than ever it is critical to ensure every child understands their powerful potential and intrinsic value.”
