Basi LeGani Tzedaka Drive Set Boys on a Mission
The YTTL Montreal school building was buzzing with energy as they concluded the Yud Shvat Mivtza Tzedaka with a powerful morning of learning, giving, and community.
The YTTL Montreal school building was buzzing with energy as they concluded the Yud Shvat Mivtza Tzedaka with a powerful morning of learning, giving, and community.
The boys gathered in the lunchroom, where the atmosphere was one of true achdus. We saw beautiful partnerships as older and younger students paired up to learn and complete a special Yud Shvat activity page. To keep the energy high, everyone enjoyed delicious danishes while earning tickets for our grand raffle: a stunning Rebbe canvas portrait generously provided by Rabbi Moshe Cohen.
This year, our focus was rooted in the Maamar Basi LeGani 5746. That year was monumental for two reasons:
1. It was the year the Rebbe began giving “Sunday Dollars” for Tzedakah.
2. The Rebbe issued a call to build new Chabad Houses everywhere and to expand existing ones!
The Yud Shvat Connection: It is a widespread minhag on Yud Shvat to give Tzedakah to the institutions of the Frierdiker Rebbe. We are proud that Chabad Lubavitch of Montreal was founded by the Frierdiker Rebbe himself, sent through the famous nine bachurim!
Combining the energy of 5746 with the holiness of Yud Shvat, the boys took on a massive campaign with four key pillars:
1. Expand Your Territory: Every boy received a new Pushka to place in a room at home that didn’t have one yet.
2. Start Strong: To get the momentum going, every student received their very own roll of coins.
3. Adopt a Shliach: Each class “adopted” a specific Chabad House in the Greater Montreal area.
4. The Competition: For two weeks, it was a race of frequency! We focused on how often we give, not just the dollar amount.
The highlight of the day was seeing the boys take ownership of their Tzedaka. We were honored to host three dedicated Shluchim: Rabbi S. Wenger (Oneg Shabbos), Rabbi S. Banon (Chabad of the University), and Rabbi P. Sperlin (Chabad of Montreal West).
Kitas 3a, 4b, and 2a personally presented their collected coins to these Rabbis and received signed certificates for their incredible efforts. These funds will go directly toward making these Chabad Houses even more beautiful.
To top off the event, the boys watched the school-wide Basi LeGani play on the big screen. The excitement was palpable as the boys realized the impact of their hard work.
The coins are currently being counted to determine the winner of our Grand Prize: A FULL DAY TRIP to visit their adopted Chabad House for a day of fun in that area!
Thank you for encouraging your sons in this beautiful Mitzvah. We look forward to announcing the winning class soon!
Thank you to our generous sponsors. The Klein, Zirkind and Gottesman families.
