Baltimore Mesivta Inaugurates New Beis Medrash

Mesivta Lubavitch of Baltimore recently celebrated the Chanukas Habayis of its newly built Beis Medrash, a moment of great joy and gratitude marking a significant milestone in the life of the mesivta.

Mesivta Lubavitch of Baltimore recently celebrated the Chanukas Habayis of its newly built Beis Medrash, a moment of great joy and gratitude marking a significant milestone in the life of the mesivta.

The celebration took place in conjunction with Chof Daled Teves, yom hilula of the Alter Rebbe. With evident siyata d’shmaya, the Beis Medrash was completed in the remarkable span of just a few short weeks, and was beautifully prepared and set up l’kavod the special occasion.

Founded under the auspices of Chabad Lubavitch of Maryland, the mesivta began its early years using space at the Lubavitch Center and Shul that’s under the spiritual leadership of Maryland’s head-shliach, Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan. Baruch Hashem, the mesivta has since grown and expanded, meriting the establishment of its own Beis Medrash—marking a significant step in its continued development.

At the Chanukas Habayis, Rabbi Yanky Werner, mashpia roshi of mesivta, addressed the talmidim on behalf of the mesivta faculty and spoke warmly about the significance of Chof Daled Teves and the responsibility of a chassidishe bochur to live by the teachings of the Alter Rebbe. His words reflected the collective guidance and chinuch of the staff, underscoring the role of the Beis Medrash as a place where Torah, avodah, and chassidishe hanhaga are lived and internalized. Also present and participating in the celebration were members of the mesivta’s hanhala, including Rabbi Mendy Kaminker, Rosh Mesivta; and Ra”mim Rabbi Yehoshua Friedman; and Rabbi Aaron Goldberg, who together guide and nurture the talmidim in their learning and chassidishe growth.

Among the Rabbonim who came to speak and inspire the talmidim were Rabbi Elchonon Lisobon, mara d’asra of Congregation Levi Yitzchok Lubavitch, and Rabbi Nesanel Kosterlits, mara d’asra of Kehillas Aish Kodesh and Baltimore’s Rosh Kollel. Their divrei chizuk added depth and inspiration to the celebration, connecting the milestone of the Chanukas Habayis with the broader strength of Torah life in the Baltimore community.

A video presentation of the Rebbe was shown, focusing on the meaning of Chof Daled Teves as well as the Rebbe’s constant encouragement to build, strengthen, and expand Lubavitch mosdos. The message resonated deeply with the talmidim, underscoring how physical growth and spiritual growth go hand in hand.

Guest mashpia was Rabbi Yanky Klyne, Ra”m and Mashpia of Yeshivas Chovevei Torah, who inspired the talmidim with divrei hisorerus and farbrenged with them late into the evening, leaving a lasting impression through his warmth and chassidishe approach.

The evening also marked the shloshim of Rabbi Mendel Gopin, a”h, father of the founder and dean of the mesivta Rabbi Zev Gopin. In his memory, his grandchildren—who learn in the mesivta and representing all the talmidim—led a siyum on Shisha Sidrei Mishnah, which had been studied collectively by the entire mesivta.

The Chanukas Habayis was beautifully arranged under the guidance of Rabbi Mendel Schmukler, who oversees the hanhala gashmis of the mesivta, ensuring that the new Beis Medrash was prepared in a beautiful and welcoming manner befitting the occasion.

The Chanukas Habayis and farbrengen infused the talmidim with renewed chayus and hiskashrus, strengthening their connection to Torah, Chassidus, and the continued growth and success of the mesivta.
