At Bris, Russian Jew Takes Name of Murdered Shliach
Just hours after the terrorist attack in Sydney claimed the life of Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a 56-year-old Russian Jew in Florida was named Eliezer Feivel in his memory.
Just hours after the horrific terrorist attack at the Chanuka celebration on Bondi Beach in Sydney that claimed the life of Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a bris in his namesake took place.
In Florida, mere hours after the tragic shooting that took Rabbi Eli Schlanger’s life, a 56-year-old man from Russia, formerly known as Yuri, entered the bris. At the bris, he chose the name Eliezer Feivel as his new Hebrew name, in memory of Rabbi Schlanger.
The bris was conducted by a team from Bris Yosef Yitzchak, an organization that works to enable Jews to receive a bris free of charge. The bris was overseen by director R’ Aryeh Wuensch, with Rabbi Izik Gurin and Dr. Michael Selsawer serving as mohalim, and Shneur Medalia serving as the sandek.
Following the bris mila, Rabbi Gurin assisted Eliezer Feivel in putting on tefillin for the first time in his life. A seudas mitzva was then held to mark his bar mitzva.
