The Monsey community Kollel held a Kinus Torah for members and locals, with guest speakers discussing intriguing topics in Halacha.

The Monsey community Kollel brings together over 20 members of the local Chabad community for twice-weekly learning. On Monday nights the Kollel studies a Halacha track, and on Wednesday nights, Chassidus. Every month the Kollel hosts two guest maggidei shiurim, one for Halacha and one for Chassidus.

Following Shavuos, the Kollel held a Kinus Torah for the local Chabad community. Over 30 community members joined, including some who are not steady members of the Kollel.

Addressing the Kinus Torah were Rabbi Dovid Weber, rov of the Beis Menachem Mendel Shul, as well as two guest speakers who had previously taught in the Kollel.

Rabbi Akiva Dov Taub, a prominent rov in New Square and an expert in Hilchos Birchas Hanehenin, spoke first, addressing practical topics in the laws of Brachos. Following his talk, attendees presented questions that had come up in their homes, and the Q&A session would have continued for a long time if not for time constraints.

Following him was Rabbi Avi Kahan, a dayan in New City. Rabbi Kahan is very active in helping agunos, and with the recent spotlight shown on such cases, Rabbi Kahan chose to clarify the get process and some of the background of how a beis din operates in different cases.

“The Kinus Torah was a big success, more than we could have imagined,” Rabbi Levi Tiechtel, one of the organizers, told Anash.org. “It definitely encouraged us to continue making such events for the benefit of the Monsey Chabad community.”

The kollel is a project of NCFJE, Rabbi Simcha Werner and Rabbi Dovid Weber.
