In a letter addressed to library directors Rabbi Shalom Ber Levine and Rabbis Yitzchok Wilhelm, Rabbi Avrohom Shemtov, chairman of Agudas Chasidei Chabad (Aguch), which is responsible for the library, instructed that the sale be halted.
The letter, which was hung by Rabbi Levine on the library door for all to see, read:
“To the esteemed R’ Sholom DovBer Levin and R’ Yitzchok Wilhelm,
“Shalom U’vracha,
We were informed about the matter of selling seforim, etc.
“Following an urgent meeting of the members of Agudas Chassidei Chabad held today, we feel it’s important to convey the following:
“1) The sale should be canceled immediately.
“2) We’d like to arrange a meeting with you in the near future to get a better understanding of the situation. Obviously, if there’s a need for assistance with storage, etc., we’re ready to help in any way necessary.
“Respectfully,
On behalf of the Vaad,
Avrohom Yitzchok Shemtov
Chairman”
It will be interesting to see what Aguch decides to do with the surplus seforim.
This makes sense
I mean when I saw the first article I thought that maybe it’s not so right…
If chassidim went and bought it specifically for the library with their hard earned money
And also if the Rebbe said to give then who cares if they have it already?
Agreed
My father gifted some things to the Rebbe back in the day. If they don’t want it anymore, the family would be thrilled to have it
