The adopted son of Rabbi Moshe Asman of Kyiv, Ukraine, was killed in the ongoing conflict with Russia. In 2002, Rabbi Asman and his wife adopted a ten-and-a-half-year-old orphan, Anton Samborsky, whom they named Matisyahu.

“He lived with our family for about ten years. As he grew older, he decided to move out and live on his own. He got married and had a daughter who is now one year old,” Rabbi Asman shared. “A week after the birth of his daughter, he was drafted into the army, sent immediately to the front lines, and tragically lost his life during the fighting.”
