On Thursday, Chof Daled Elul, a moving community-wide challah bake took place at Bais Rivkah Lefferts in Crown Heights. Over 500 women gathered in a show of solidarity, praying for the protection of Eretz Yisroel and the safe return of the hostages. This event also marked the 50th anniversary of the Rebbe’s Mivtza Neshek campaign, making it an opportune time to focus on the three mitzvos uniquely tied to Jewish women: Challah, Hadlokas Neiros, and Taharas Hamishpacha.
Mrs. Maggie Rogatsky opened the night with powerful words of hope, setting a strong tone for the evening. The Rebbe’s special emissary for Mivtza Neshek, Mrs. Esther Sternberg spoke about the Rebbe’s personal involvement in every detail of the campaign, even down to designing the candlesticks, which each woman was able to take home from the event to use for mivtzoim.
Mrs. Rivky Brikman shared her unique perspective on the importance of privacy in the Jewish home. Mrs. Rivkah Krinsky explained how when we take challah we are demonstrating that we are putting Hashem first. Meirav Berger shared a personal plea to the women of Crown Heights for her daughter Agam, a hostage in Gaza.
Rivkah Krinsky and Devora Bukiet led the women in song, accompanied by Mrs. Mirele Rosenberger on piano, filling the room with harmony. The highlight of the event was when all 500 women said the Brocha on the challah together. United. With one voice. Davening for the safety of Eretz Yisroel and the return of the hostages. The energy in the room was truly palpable.
As the evening progressed, women were encouraged to commit to a personal hachlata related to the three special mitzvos for women. Some chose to bench licht before the first alarm, while others committed to baking challah once a month or taking a review class on Taharas Hamishpacha, among other meaningful actions.
Thank you to the organizers of the event, Bais Rivkah BRanches, Mrs. Sara Blau, Mrs. Ruthie Sperlin, Mrs. Rivky Perl, Noa Libersohn, Rochele Klein and to all the volunteers who helped make the evening a success by preparing ingredients and setting up.
