Make a firm decision that when a communal plate of food is passed around, that you will always choose the closest on the plate or the furthest etc. An added advantage is that no-one will even know that you are “in avodah” when choosing from the cake plate. And ess gezunterheid.
Another iskafya, which should be unnecessary to mention, is to stay away from anything – anything – that the shulchan-aruch….
