Thank you for your insightful and important article 'when mesirus nefesh isn't the right thing'. I couldn't agree with you more about the importance of listening to medical professionals and not putting others at risk. The Torah treats even a safek nefashos as something for which one must violate Shabbos.

However, with all due respect, I must take issue with your implication that the Coronavirus came about as a response to humanity's arrogance. On the most basic level, who knows? Who can say this is why Hashem did something? Isn't that itself somewhat arrogant? Was that the Rebbe's approach to tragedy?

And the quote: 'beryeh ketanah yesh li b'olami...' the context of that quote is one of the most evil people in Jewish history. A man who massacred masses of Jews, who destroyed the Bais Hamikdash. The sentence begins, 'rasha ben rasha...'
Why on earth would we use that line for the hundred of thousands of people who have died because of this virus? Or the millions of people who have suffered in other ways? Including many who observed the Torah kala k'vachamura.

(by the way, the talmidim of Rashbi died of askerah which is often interpreted as diphtheria - a disease caused by bacteria - a berye ketanah. Would it be appropriate to use that quote with regard to them? And the same could be said for many diseases).

Reb Moshe Elya Gerlitzky's hakpada on mikva

I heard that in his old age they once arranged for him to have a minyan in his home so he wouldn't have to walk to shul on Shabbos. But he couldn't bear the thought of not going to Mikva shabbos morning so he walked to the mikva (which is in shul) and came back to the minyan in his home...
