“A bachur still needs a maggid shiur, a chavrusa, chazarah, and someone who can actually listen to him read and correct him.”
The growth of every bochur is toloi on these things listed above. Especially the maggid shiur (u’bifrat in the formative years from elementary until mesivta (v’ad bichlal)). He isn’t just someone who gives a shiur or gives over certain choimer, he has to know where each bochur is at, to avoid him becoming swept up with the tide until its too late and he has no interest in learning gemara in Zal. No kid will sit down with a ‘Talmud Textbook’, despite all its maalos.
Maybe we have invested too much in outreach/shlichus and not enough talent being pumped into the chinuch system, purely teaching torah to frum/lubavitcher kids..

I know many bochurim who struggle in learning and yes basics knowledge and some individual attention would help identify what they need help with.

Its not that we don’t know the steps in the Gemara (Mishna, explanation, question, answer, proof, etc.). We know the process of the Gemara, but what don’t know is how to recognize those steps in the Gemara itself.

Ever since yidden came to America the percentage of yidden knowing how to learn has gone way down ( there are many reasons ) and if you look into it more deeply unfortunately a lot of those bocherim from the last 2 or 3 generations didn’t either know how to learn either, I understand it’s wasn’t as bad as it is now but it was still a struggle. We are not in Russia anymore and it’s time for a new approach

Instead of trying to trying to reinvent the wheel, ask elders how they did it successfully in previous generations.

They didn’t have special tools and methods, they simply learned a large amount of material at a young age. By the time they came to Mesivta, they already learned tens of dapim of Gemara. A regular boy will intuitively pick up the language and Gemara structure. (Of course, he can always dig deeper later by learning advanced klalim, but he’s fine comprehending any basic Gemara.)

There is no replacement for continued familiarity. Memorizing milim is more difficult and less helpful since you aren’t seeing it in context. (What’s the better way to learn a language: spend time in the country or memorize a dictionary?)

We have to stop thinking that we’re smarter than previous generations. Yes, we may have some unique challenges, but overall the issues were the same, and we can learn from their solutions.

Language skills (Peirush HaMilim) is another area that can support learners having challenges. this is applicable to all subjects too.

Finally someone has finally attempted to fix this issue, I wish him hatzlacha that it should have a great effect on bocherim and other people trying to learn Gemara. As a bocher in zal I see that yes there a some bocherim that know how to learn gemara but I would say that 80 percent of the bocherim I know do not know how to learn gemara, therefore I am very happy that someone is trying to tackle this issue. I know it’s not as big of a problem with chassidus but there are still bocherim who also have this issue in chassidus too so maybe the person who wrote this koyvetz or someone else could also write another koyvetz on how to learn chassidus
