During the hostage crisis of 1979, the days were marked on the TV show, Nightline, at the start of every nightly news broadcast. “At that time, the show was called The Iran Crisis–America Held Hostage: Day “xxx”, where xxx represented the number of days that Iranians held the occupants of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, Iran as hostages.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightline It was a reminder of the magnitude and continuity of the crisis.
