					<description><![CDATA[In the late 5740&#039;s I obtained a photograph similar to these. This was in France, and the one who sold me the photo was an American bal Tshuva by the name of Duchan [whose French wife had just passed away then]. Around 5750, Reb Notke Barkahn submitted a copy of that picture to the Rebbe. [Reb Nota had then moved to Riga on Shlichus]. The Rebbe acknowledged the gift, but commented that it is evidently a picture of an artist&#039;s portrait, which would explain the fact that the beard looks wider on one side more than the other.
