R’ Zalman was a most honest to goodness fellow. EMES truth, as he saw it - he called it!

Over the few years working at the Algemeiner Journal on Park Avenue South - in 1982/3 - it was the drafting room where he would work on the weekly Caricature or Sketch that would accompany R’ Gershon Ber Jacobson - my dear father-in-law’s Mein Maynung, his weekly popular Editorial. Also pasting up the pages as needed before their being sent to the printing press.

R’ Zalman was a man of few words - however great intelligence, truly a Chassidisher personality in so many ways. Unassuming, at times outspoken when he disagreed with the point of the editorial or when he felt that someone was being presented in a less than honest
manner. After all America is the land of compliments and honor. The way he ate his humble lunch - and every nuance of his was unpretentious. He really was respected and appreciated by the “observant” staff as well as the not yet “observant” writers and hot type “zetzers” of the linotype machinery etc.

This article gives further insight into his development of one of the most accomplished chassidic artist ever.

His memory is for a blessing to his family and to all who are fortunate to have his artwork displayed at their home.
