Well said, although I’d quibble with the part about cars. If station wagons were still being made, sure, lots of frum Jews would no doubt buy them. But they’re just not available anymore, and only the Sienna and the Odyssey seat 8. (I myself had to switch from a different model to an Odyssey when my family grew, BH.)

You didn’t address the real issue.
The reason people strive for higher living standards is not always for themselves. It’s so their children don’t feel nebachdik. Which does sometimes also influence yiras shomayim. So it’s not necessarily a bad cheshbon.
