Thank you so much for writing this article!
I personally can testify that I went through exactly what you're saying, I got bullied really harshly, more than anyone should, and I always had a smile when I was being bullied, I would really tell adults, in order not look weak, and because I felt like adults wouldn't help.
And that's the reason I do not put on teffilin etc any more.
I am a staff member in camp and I witnessed several stories this summer of kids being very harshly bullied and they do not step up and they put up a smile, I tried to help but there is a limit of how much I can do.
So now I beg of each of you teachers, principles, parents, staff members in camp, and each one of you- please make sure wherever you go to have this in mind- that you're always trying to bring over the points to kids/ buchrim that no matter what we always have to be sensitive to others feelings, even if it looks like they don't mind, even if they tell you that they don't mind,
never hurt anyone else.
And the second thing is that we have to always make sure if we ever see a situation and that it looks like someone may be being bullied even if it seems like they are smiling we have to step in as the adults or whoever we are in the picture.
Thank you to all parents who teach the kids to respect others.
