A few corrections to this article.
The child was a boy, his name was Sholom Naftali. He was nine weeks old when he passed away. The story behind Rabbi and Mrs. Sufrin and family traveling to the Rebbe was per the Rebbe's instructions. Rabbi Sufrin asked the Rebbe what they should do, as an older siblings upsherenish was during the shloshim of the baby. The Rebbe told them to start the upsherenish in London and come to NY to finish it in the Rebbe's room. They then asked if they should come for yud shvat. The Rebbe said that yud shvat is not a time for celebration, but to come for Purim.
The reason for the thought that it was a girl is because the the Rebbe referenced the Neshama which is in feminine form.
