What is the source for this?
This is a pretty serious claim, as it casts a shadow over Yanover esrogim.
(The popular shmuah is that the Esrog growers in Eretz Yisroel asked the Rebbe for an esrog and he gave it to them – pretty sure you can find that in various yomanim).

So it must be that the seeds are from an esrog that was grown in Israel from seeds of an esrog that was again grown in israel from the seeds of an esrog etc etc going back at least 29 years ago.
Not sure how this makes it more special than the israeli grown esrogim
