As an actual cyclist, I can tell you that these lanes protect no one. Except maybe the illegal riders who totally disregard all traffic laws.

It is impossible to ride in these lanes. Pedestrians walk into them without looking, cars and delivery trucks park in them. You can’t pass another rider and they are filled with illegal motorized vehicles going well over the legal speed limit for e-assist.

If they wanted to actually make it safer for everyone. They would invest in cyclist education and enforcement – just as they do for drivers. A rider must obey all traffic laws, use lights at night, signal movements etc. etc.
