The Rebbe held onto the kisvei yad and in return instructed R’ Binyomin Gorodetzky to print the shemen lamoar. Certain elder chassidim were very surprised and even upset about the fact that Lubavitch was printing shemen lamaor. It wasn’t common knowledge at that time that it was per the Rebbe’s instructions. This is based on what I heard from Harav Mordechai Ashkenazi a”h and להבחל”ה R’ Mendel Aronov zol gezunt zein

yes. there are descendants of his alive today that are descendants of the Beis Halevi of Brisk as well. Since his eynikel married a granddaughter of Reb Yoshe Ber, the Beis HaLevi.
